VScan (©1989 - 1991 Arthur Hagen) - H I S T O R Y
=====================================================
1.0 - 4.90: Ancient history - see Encyclopedia Galactica
4.91b: Requesters added. Other cosmetic changes. Will check
bootblocks even if no devs:VScan.BootBrain is present. The
BootInstall option now checks for write-protection. New
keyword [unprotect] added. Analyze mode enhanced. Extra
security against crackers/virusmakers added. Released
with bugfree BootBrain v 1.2. Handles low-mem conditions
much better. Now asks whether to reset boot-vectors when
using [mem] option. No more forced reboot when run from
CLI with non-standard boot-vectors (thx, Gyro).
4.92b: Bugfixed 4.91b
4.93b: Much better Analyze mode. Will now in fact act as a dumper
for ALL Amiga object files. Keyword [deep] now only tells
the rating for the program. New keyword [deeper] does ALL,
even checking .o and .lib object files!
4.94b: Even better Analyze mode. Automatic Analyze added to the
BootBlock check whenever an unknown bootblock is found.
(This works on REGISTERED versions only!) Added two new
viruses to the brainfile. Current brainfile version is 1.3
4.95b: Now every unknown bootblock will be displayed. Changed the
devs:VScan.BootBrain to become libs:virus.library. This
permits the library to stay in memory to minimize disk
swapping for non-harddisk users. New keyword alias made:
[atomic] will function as [deeper].
4.96b: Fixed the bug that sometimes gave a false alert. Added
some code to prevent illegal registered versions. Memory
routine somewhat better. Released with virus.library
version 4.97.
4.97b: Bugs fixed. Somewhat faster, somewhat smaller. Will now
read/write bootblocks even if memory is infected by a Virus
4.98c: Runs under 2.0 of the O/S. Two new file viruses added:
"Xeno2" and "Butonic". Recognizes ZKick for those of us
that use 2.0 on other machines than 3000's. Incompatible
code using INTUITIONPRIVATE (naughty, naughty) rewritten to
ensure 1.2, 1.3 AND 2.0 compatibility without breaking any
rules.
4.99: Fixed [brainsub] option; it now works... [Brain] option
now warns of changed files only. Registered users will now
see custom bootblocks displayed as default. Recognizes two
new bootblock types.
"Version VScan" will display current version # according to
C= rules. No longer crashes when KickTagPtr points to some
unidentified code.
5.00: Five new file viruses added: Finds and removes the CCCP
virus from both memory and files. Finds the Revenge of the
Lamer virus versions II and III in files. Finds and re-
moves the Travelling Jack virus in files. Kills and pro-
tects against the Terrorist file virus.
5.01 - 5.02: Internal versions only!
5.03: Works with the A3000(!). Recognizes ZKick 2.30. No longer
reports some odd files as (C) Steve Tibbett. Sorry, Steve!
Two new crunchers added (TurboImploder 3.1 and PowerPacker
3.0a). Will now handle overlayed programs correctly. Will
recognize saved bootblocks. Analyze mode much improved.
Works for files larger than 1Mb. Some other bugfixes.
5.04: Nothing much, just added the Centurion file virus (yawn).
5.05: *** WARNING *** This is a bogus version not made by myself!
Avoid this one at all costs!
5.06: New keyword: FastInstall / InstallFast. This will of
course install a FastFileSystem bootblock, and works just
as the BootInstall option. VirusTest Trojan recognized.
Some minor cosmetic changes.
5.09: Recognizes newer ZKicks and RAD properly. Better memory
handling routines. Program now reports "VScan has been
corrupted" if VScan has been virus-infected, crunched or
similar. Better Analyze reports. All boot routines now
work with 2.0 bootblocks, and Fastinstall/Bootinstall now
installs a 2.0 bootblock instead of a 1.2/1.3 bootblock.
Two new file viruses added...
5.10: Works with csh. 5.09 would report "VScan has been corrup-
ted"; this was in fact due to a bug in csh (it doesn't pass
all 68000 registers properly), but nevertheless a problem
that many reported. Also modified the Analyze bit a bit.

Tested for KickStart 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 2.0
Tested for WorkBench 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 2.0
Not guaranteed to work under all these, but known incompa-
tibilities will be tried corrected.
